With families becoming smaller and life becoming faster by the
day, the kitchen has become the hub of the house and more and
more people are opting for kitchen remodels more than any other
area of the home.
If you flip through magazines there will be many, many things
that catch your fancy. However ask yourself if they are just
fads or will you find lasting use for them. Also ask yourself
if that particular color, item or appliance will work for the

Small Office Space
Many moms and dads use the kitchen counter to accumulate and
sort mail and pay bills. However with water and food items
being in such close proximity it might not be such a good idea
to pay your water bill with grape jelly on the check. A new
trend in kitchen remodels is to have a small desk space or bill
pay center where mail can come in, be recycled or put in
respective folders or bins immediately so that everyone knows
what things have to be done. A wall calendar with spaces for
every family member makes it easy to schedule a dinner party if
you know when Junior has soccer practice, dentist’s
appointments and gymnastics.
Island
Another new trend in kitchen remodels is to have an island with
tall bar stools which family members can use as a make shift
kitchen table. You need not use the eating area all the time if
all you want is a quick bowl of soup or sandwich. Kids often do
their homework close by while parents prepare dinner. An option
with this kitchen remodel feature is to have a moveable island
on wheels in case you need it elsewhere or you need to free up
some kitchen space for an event. Then you can just cart it out
to the garage and get it out of the way or use to serve drinks
or dessert if you have company over.
Appliances
Wall mounted microwaves are a great addition during your
kitchen remodel as they free up much needed counter space. They
might cost a little more upfront but they are safer as little
kids cannot get into them and they give you more work room for
preparing food. New refrigerator models are also essential in
kitchen remodels as they have great innovative features like
freezers on the bottom, deluxe ice making equipment right in
the door, better deigned shelves to let food cool more evenly
and are more energy efficient than their
predecessors.
